Day 42 Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia was badly in need of rain. Today there was manna from heaven! Great torrents of rain fell through the night turning the trailer into a musical symphony. I am obviously not crazy about rain when we are camping, but the popcorn sound on the trailer roof at night is a soothing lull. In the morning as you are trying to pick your way across muddy puddles to get to church it isn’t nearly so romantic a notion, but as I said, they need the rain so we’ll cope!

David’s sister Beth is a Presbyterian minister so this morning we attended her church service in Hardwood Lands. The beautiful old wooden church was actually originally the Congregational Church of South Maitland and was purchased in 1931 for $175. It was dismantled piece by piece and moved to its current location to serve as a gathering place for the Presbyterian community in East Hants. Attending a service here is like a step back in time. Beth does an excellent job of gathering and community and we are warmly welcomed.

Although we didn’t have a firm plan for the day, the hopes of convincing David’s Mom to venture out to explore in this weather is slim to none! Since the point of being here is to visit with Grandma, we spend a happy day indoors. Since Larry is a diehard Blue Jays fan, I am happy to keep him company with the game. I haven’t kept up with my beloved Jays since we started on this trip, so it was a treat!

By early evening we were on our way back to the trailer. Tomorrow is a work day for Larry and a long travel day for us, so an early evening seemed prudent. A little Olympic viewing, accompanied by a few sniffles for the Air Canada commercials (sheesh, I’m hopeless!) and we call it a day.
Rev. Beth Mattinson - there she is on the sign out front!

Larry provides music for the service.

The church may be old but the sermon is on a Sony e-Reader!

Beautiful old pipe organ.

David's sister Beth in the pulpit.

The lovely old church.

Trying to get these two to pose for a picture!! Honestly you would think we were asking for an organ donation!! Here is David "making" his mother smile.
